Here you'll find a logical, step-by-step method of determining what part of your audio system is on the fritz, and maybe even what to do to alleviate the problem. First Steps

Source Component Easy Reference Guide:

Turntable: Charts Six & Seven

Check to see that the AC cords of all units are plugged in and switches turned on. If tubes, pilot light, or dial lights do not go on in any component, try a new fuse in that component (a fuse amy be open without being visibly defective). Check the wall outlet by plugging in a lamp.

AC power connection OK, switches on, fuses OK, one unit does not go on:

That unit requires service

All units go on, sound still poor:

Check control settings. Operate all switches and controls several times to clean wipers and switch contacts.

Sound still poor on one channel only; system has only one source component.

Sound improves:

Improper control settings or poor contact on one control

Sound still poor on both channels; system has only one source component:
